You are what you eat...

Meg Wachter is an amazing photographer based in Brooklyn and these are some of the images from her collection aptly named "Dumped". I would have gladly posed for one of these pictures, especially in the name of art. Still, you have to wonder, how long does it take to get milk and fruit loops out of your hair?

Summer rewind...

When I first started this blog, my sister had just announced that she was moving to the pacific northwest--Portland to be exact. It broke my heart but I was excited about visiting and doing many outdoor-sy things I'm not exposed to in the good ole Windy City. Of course, two weeks before she moved she changed her mind and decided to move to Seattle instead. Being the devoted and supportive sister that I am, I took a week off and helped her move and find an apartment and boy am I glad I did. Seattle is AMAZING! It's such a cultured and laid back place, I couldn't help but smile at everyone I saw. We didn't get to do much sight-seeing due to our task at hand but we did go to some incredible spots, case in point Bop Street Records.

Bop Street Records is probably the best record store in the western hemisphere, just ask Jarvis Cocker. I've never seen so many records in my life, it's like I died and woke up in Elton John's music collection. But the best part of the place? The owner, Dave Vorhees. Not only did he make us feel at home as soon as we walked in, he also had some fascinating stories that I was soaking up like a sponge. He shared with us a special project that he was a part of and I had to buy these postcards to share with you. That's right, this blog is now your source for subtle nudity. Aren't those postcards the kookiest you've ever seen? I loved them and I knew I had to have them.

Dave is even in one of the pictures but I didn't point him out in case any of you ever go to Bop Street and meet him. It might be a little awkward to see him naked before having a conversation with the man.

More blogger inspiration...

Hayley is an aspiring stylist from Melbourne who takes amazing photographs for a Melbourne street fashion site and blogs about her amazing photo shoots. Isn't her Russian model, Ana, just stunning? I wish I could pull off that haircut!

P.S. I love that dork button, although Ana doesn't quite strike me as one.

Oh baby...

I stumbled upon this beautiful picture and wonderful blog as I made my blog-reading rounds this morning. This gorgeous blogger says she found this picture amusing because it appears she is in complete denial that she has a child. Of course as you read on, you find nothing could be further from the truth as this amazing little woman is clearly her pride and joy. What a great image to start off my week.

P.S. The baby's name is Clover, isn't that adorable?

Your DIY for the week...

Over at Inhabitots, we learn how to take a photograph and use it to customize a t-shirt of your kids (or like I'm doing, one of my sister and I as kids). This is a wonderful and cheap gift idea.

I'm working on another silly diy project (I'm not a crafty person at all) for you all that my sister showed me when I visited her in Seattle. Speaking of Seattle, I have some fun posts about my visit that I'll share next week.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Like fine wine...

A great thing about Chicago is our public transportation system that allows a poor girl like me to get around despite not being able to afford having a car. I ride the bus to work every day and, let's face it, there is no better place to people watch than on a bus; the most interesting human beings seem to be attracted to this sort of transportation.

The last couple of days, I've noticed the most divine older woman riding the bus. She always wears a shawl, Tory Burch flats and pearls in her ears; it takes all my energy not to scream out, "BE MY GRANDMA"! Plus, I truly admire a lady with such exquisite taste not feeling like she is above riding the bus.

Someday I will have the courage to talk to her and ask her what makes her so classy and how she's managed to mantain that. For now, I can only hope that I will someday be that lady impressing the pants out of all the 24 years olds...on the bus, of course.

Getting sketchy: things you find in a living room edition

Here is the second set of sketches I've decided to share. I was really excited when I started but the novelty is wearing off. Basically, drawing is effing hard and I'm crazy to think I can learn how to do it now after all these years. Of course, I'm very stubborn and will continue to attempt this because at the end of the day, this is an extremely therapeutic hobby and that I suppose is what I was searching for all along.

I'm going to rename them "commuter gloves"...

Dramatis Personae posted about her love for Lady Gaga's bold and colorful style; at the end of the post, she suggested some items that would emulate Gaga's style and my jaw dropped when I saw these puppies! I MUST have them....in every color!

Come on people now...

I swear, I must have been a hippie in a former life.

It's all business...

I'm taking a class called Marketing Yourself/Job-Seeking Strategies where we learn how to present ourselves, organize a portfolio, update a resume correctly, blah, blah, blah.... Don't get me wrong, it's a great class it's just I'm no good at these sort of things.

Our first assignment is to come up with a tag line. Are you kidding me?! What am I supposed to come up with that embodies the qualities I want to sell to any prospective employer? So, the bf and I started making up funny ones and this is what we came up with:

  • When professional and classy have a one night stand....well, I'm that love child.

  • Just hire me, quit being a bitch.

  • I'm what Willis was talking about.

Do any of you guys have a tag line? If so, please share, I obviously need serious help.

Jump for joy...

Here's to fall, a new school semester and blog improvements! Check out my new blog header, brought to us by the uber-talented and lovely Alyson. Isn't it incredible? I asked her if including a car was possible and she just went above and beyond my expectations. Thanks, darlin'!

Role Model...

Probably the most popular photograph by Lisette Model; a daring documentarist in the 50's who chose to display true American beauty based on her standards not the rest of the country's.

This picture displays sheer joy and exuberance, it makes me smile every time I see it. Although it also evokes many other emotions, which I'm sure was Model's intention all along; we can see how our first reaction can help us appreciate the true essence of her work.

Happy Monday!

Gettin' sketchy...

So I've decided that I'm sick of telling people that I can barely bring myself to draw a stick figure. I've taken it upon myself to learn the basic methods of sketching and drawing by getting a hold of the "Complete Idiots Guide to Drawing Basics", that's right, I went all out. Although, I must say I'm impressed with their methods of getting my pathetic lines and squiggles to actually resemble an object.

I'd like to show you all my feeble attempts and perhaps I can eventually showcase some improvement.

What do you guys think? Not bad for a beginner, I hope.
