the joys of home ownership...

 I haven't really shared any proper pictures of our new home because there is so much I still
wanna do. It's so funny how much has happened in the month that we've lived here. Above
are some pictures of the mister and a friend putting together our new bed frame. It is so
neat, it even has drawers! Having a proper bed frame makes me feel like such an adult.
On the flip side, last weekend we had some intense storms roll through and we woke up
to a basement full of standing water. We unfortunately had boxes full of our stuff still down
there so we had a lot of throwing away to do. This included lots of collectibles, books, pictures,
it was heartbreaking. We tried staying positive and realized it could've been worse.
Oh the joys of owning a home.

bookcase as room divider...

{found here}

{my living room space}

Part of the appeal of our new house is how spacious it is or appears to be. The only problem
is the temptation to want to fill up all this space with stuff. The one place I'd like to get right is the living room.
It is a pretty big room and we just need something to break it up. Enter: using a bookcase as a room
divider! I'd like to take credit for the idea, but, it was actually the idea of my dear, beautiful friend
who has a much better eye for design than I ever could have. I also looked on the interwebs and found this
feature on apartment therapy and got some major inspiration.

P.S. I apologize for the poor pictures of my living room, I probably shouldn't have used my iPhone. :)

erin fetherston's crib....

{via}
I love Erin Fetherston. Her clothing is always fun and girly and right up my alley--if only I could afford her pieces on my bartender salary. Sigh. However, Vogue has given us a peek into her living quarters and I'm not surprised at how much I love every.single.detail. Again, sigh, sigh sigh.

Kitchen art....

{via apartment therapy}

Speaking of kitchens, check out this awesome collection of affordable art for your kitchen that apartment therapy gathered from etsy. I want them all. Especially the "whip it good" print. I saw Devo last summer and they are still amazing. So energetic and fun and still rocking the flower pots.

Kitchen + pop of color......

{via crate and barrel}
{our hopefully new kitchen}

I hope I don't jinx it by talking about it, but if everything works out, we could be moving into our first home in a couple of weeks. Eek! Above is a small, not so good picture (better ones to come!) of our kitchen. I was really attracted to all the new-ish and modern features of this small but functional kitchen but it does feel a bit sterile right now. The first thing I thought to myself was, this kitchen needs a pop of color...or two!

Homemade Typography...

How cool are these still life typography shots by Daniel Tobin Smith? I'm inspired to do something like this with all my shoes or maybe with.. books! :)

My very own book nook...

Ever since I can remember, the one thing that I imagined my future home would have is my very own library or book nook. If we get the house that we've been eying, the mister and I are planning to turn one of the rooms into a library. Not an office with books or a guest bedroom with a book shelf, a room designed to hold our vast collection of books where one can curl up to read on a rainy day or any day for that matter. Here's some of my book nook inspiration:

As you can see, I'm really digging the color coded books.

Steampunk design for your home...

**Up until now, this blog has been mostly about fashion, art, wedding (as of late) and some personal. This week I'd like to introduce Tenacious Dee--Home Edition. I've never blogged about home design because frankly I had no interest in it. All that has changed now that Mr. Dee and I are in the process of obtaining our very first home. (fingers crossed) I'm gonna kick off this new home edition by making this week all about my home inspiration.**

Steampunk design appears to be very hard to pull off but when done right, boy it sure is rad!
