Gigi....

I watched He's just not that into you last night and I fell head over heels for Ginnifer Goodwin's character Gigi because she reminded me so much of me! A hopeless optimist who isn't embarrassed to show her vulnerability, even if it means occasionally appearing foolish. I would also kill for her wardrobe and her adorable apartment and that pink phone, oh that pink phone! If Gigi were real, we would be probably be inseparable. That or we'd kill each other since we were so much alike. Hm....I'm rethinking this whole scenario.....

Crazy Heart

I was listening to a segment on NPR about the singing in the movie Crazy Heart starring Jeff Bridges. They played a duet that Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell sing in the movie and I was so delighted, I had to go find it again. I'm not surprised that Mr. Bridges is musically-inclined, he is extremely talented at everything it seems but Colin, you go Irish boy! Listen to 'em pipes!

The Fall...

I've been meaning to post about this for awhile now. Forgive me for being an awful blogger but school was getting the best of me.

Recently, I saw the most beautiful movie called The Fall. It stars one of my favorite actors, Lee Pace of Pushing Daisies fame (R.I.P). The film is set in 1920's Los Angeles and Pace plays Roy Walker, a Hollywood stuntman who got seriously hurt while on the job. To make matters worse, the woman he loves, an actress, leaves him for the leading actor in the movie that caused Walker's accident. Basically, the man has no will to live. I won't give away anymore of the plot because I want you all to see this amazing piece of work. Pace is amazing in this movie, truly at his finest but the best part of the movie.....

newcomer child actress, Catinca Untaru. I dare you to watch this movie and not fall in love with her. I'm telling you, if I was guaranteed a child as adorable as her I'd go out and get myself knocked up right this second! This is gonna sound cruel but I usually detest child actors. They always seem to "overact" and can be downright annoying. Untaru is nothing like that, she doesn't even seem to be acting and she has the most adorable Eastern European accent that plays a big role in her character's development. The chemistry between Untaru and Pace is amazing. I read somewhere that the director, Tarsem Singh, encouraged Pace to call Untaru by her real name in some of the scenes so they could get natural reactions out of her and boy did it work.

Isn't she just a doll! Look at her in her little outfit. You MUST watch this movie. Rent it or Netflix it today!

Conversations with myself...

I saw a spectacular movie last night that I'd never heard of but popped out at me on my Netflix homepage. Conversations with other Women is a look at how two individuals deal with their past and how it affects their respective future. It stars the lovely Helena Bonham Carter and the amazing Aaron Eckhart (I am more and more impressed by him). It's shot split-screen which is sort of distracting at first but once you get accustomed, it adds that much more depth to the film.

It seems we are always drawn to movies that depict our current mood and specific take on life at the moment. When I was happily dating my ex-boyfriend, I never watched romantic comedies or even heartbreaking love stories such as this one. I felt it was an insult to watch any movie that stereotyped relationships as meet-fall in love-obstacle-man or woman realizes they love the other protagonist-happy ending. I also felt no need to watch the sad love films because I naively thought that love could conquer all and that any anguish or longing felt in a relationship was unnecessary. If you love each other, that's it, be happy.

After getting my heart broken, I now see how refreshing-although still unrealistic-a romantic comedy can be. The notion that there is a man out there who would fight for our love-it's almost encouraging. A movie like Conversations with other Women highlights the fact that love is most certainly not enough. I am convinced that I am destined to be one of those women who doesn't meet her other half-if you will-in her youth. I have this feeling that I'll be a wise and mature 40 year old bride. A couple of years ago, that would have terrified and depressed me. Now, it is sort of comforting and it makes me feel better about the reckless, youthful mistakes I have made and will undoubtedly continue to make.

Oh by the way, in the film, the gorgeous Nora Zehetner plays a young Helena Bonham Carter. I absolutely adore her little face.

Still the one...

I don't have cable at my apartment but somehow I manage to get TBS and BET, clearly the greatest cable channels; so you see, I am set. If you watch TBS at all, you know a couple of things never fail:

1. They like to play the same movies over and over again.

2. Family Guy, Friends and Sex and the City are always on.

3. They advertise the shit out of their shows and movies as well as TNT's shows and movies.....

Speaking of TNT, have you caught that new drama starring Timothy Hutton, Leverage that TBS has advertised obsessively? Well, I was actually delighted that TBS decided to air the pilot last night because after seeing the myriad of commercials I was happy to see that Timothy Hutton is still a hot, hot man. He still gets my heart racing....his show on the other hand-well, let's just say I don't foresee any Emmy noms any time soon.

Most certain wonder

After a huge, delicious meal yesterday, I sat down to watch Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium and fell in love with it. The imagery and cinematography was magical and made me feel like a kid again. Natalie Portman looked so adorable back in her short hair days and she wears the cutest little outfits. Jason Bateman, well, he's always amazing. But my favorite part? Dustin Hoffman's dialogue. My favorite line of his is "Life is an occasion, rise to it." Isn't that a wonderful quote?

I highly recommend this movie, it will make you laugh, cry and wish that you could be Natalie Portman.

Just what you need, another Batman post...

I really enjoyed the Dark Knight. I saw it twice and would probably pay and see it again if I had the chance. Ironically enough, 3 of the 4 people I went to the see the movie with (first and second time) didn't like it, complaining it was too long, too far-fetched or too geared to the masses with the explosions and such. I completely disagree! I know Allison and I have the same idea.

There was something inherently different about this movie that seemed to speak to me; yes, Heath Ledger's performance was incredible, yes the plot was never dull but that is just the surface. Then, I found this article and immediately understood why I've been so drawn to the movie. The article talks about how Christopher Nolan uses two philosophy examples in both Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. If you are even mildly interested in philosophy and or Batman, this article is highly recommended.
